About Val Stangoe
Val is a self taught Scottish artist living in Cumbria who paints simple images abstracted from nature. Examples of recent series are flowers, tidal surges and pebbles in water.
Val uses the ancient art of ENCAUSTIC to paint on wood with multiple layers of melted wax, oil paint and a blow torch. She also makes 'in the moment' encaustic monotypes on paper.
Val says,‘ It fascinates me that the smallest pebble existed before I was born and will exist long after my death, that tides roll in and out of the beach continually and that flowers that die today return to the garden next year. Our lives are precious moments in time and we should use them wisely.'
